J. E. Caldwell & Co. Sterling Silver Pierced Centerpiece Bowl in Art Nouveau Style

J. E. Caldwell & Co., sterling silver centerpiece bowl from the early 20th century in Art Nouveau style, with pierced floral and cartouche motifs adorning the rim as well as similar engraved motifs around the body of the bowl, measuring 13 1/2'' in diameter (7 3/4'' in bowl diameter) by 3 3/4'' in height, weighing 42.8 troy ounces, and bearing hallmarks and a monogram as shown. 

J.E. Caldwell & Co. was a major jewellery retailer and one-time silversmith in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The firm experienced rapid growth from the start, and repeated enlargements and removals were made necessary from time to time to gain the greater facilities demanded. In 1843, James Caldwell entered in partnership with Bennett, acting under the name Bennett & Caldwell. Caldwell acquired a national reputation through its silver services presented to battleships and cruisers of the US Navy. It exhibited at The Centennial Exposition in 1876, representing the American Jewelry Maker.
